Research Reports - Population Growth-Poverty Nexus: Evidence from the Philippines


The study was conducted to gather evidence within the country of the effects of population to economic growth. Comparing 74 provinces using data from 1985 to 2003, the study focused on two questions: How do populatin dynamics affect income growth and poverty reduction at the provincial level? What are the implications on provincial revenues and expenditures?  The key message is: Local government units that manage population growth will see poverty leves diminish and will realize economic progress for their constituents.
